For the following exercises, find the common difference for the arithmetic sequence provided.
Consider the arithmetic sequence,
{0, 1/2, 1, 3/2, 2, …} ...... (1)
Compute the common difference of the given arithmetic sequence, subtract each term from the subsequent term,
a2 – a1 = 1/2 - 0
= 1/2
Subtract second term from third term,
a3 – a2 = 1 – 1/2
= 1/2
Subtract third term from fourth term,
a4 – a3 = 3/2 – 1
= 1/2
And so on.
The difference between any two consecutive terms is equal to 1/2, the common difference of given arithmetic sequence will be d = 1/2.
