Which acid has a higher hydrogen ion concentration?
a) 0.050 M HNO3
c) 1.25 M HBr
Remember the pH scale by sorensen for the hydrogen ion concentration, pKa is the scale used to deal with the dissociation of acid. The more the dissociation, the stronger the acid. This means, lower the number, the more acidic the acid. pKa data can be found here
http://www.ochemonline.com/PKa_data
HNO3 pKa = -1.3
HBr pKa = -9.0
Hence HBr is strongest acid than HNO3.
[H+] = 0.05 for HNO3 and [H+] = 1.25 for HBr here [H+] represents hydrogen ion concentration.
Answer: c) 1.25 M HBr
