Explanation:- GMO genetically modified organisms are those whose genetic material has been altered through genetic engineering.

Pros:-

1.GMO help in increasing world food security, achieving the goal of sustainable development (zero hunger), improve nutritional value crops, improve crop yield.

2. GMO have increased shelf life e.g flavr savr tomato by calgene. They disease and pest resistant.

3. They are less dependent on pesticides and fungicides etc this would reduce environmental pollution.

4. The crops produced are drought tolerant and can be grown in water shortage areas.

Cons:-

GMO are produced by altering DNA this may result in allergic reaction by humans as human trials of GMO has not been don large scale in all GMOs.

2. They can cause ecological disturbances by cross breeding with  wild organisms.

3. Increased population of pest resistant population.

4 cross pollination could lead to super weed formation.
