1.   Which of the following statements about engine configurations is true?

   A. V-type engines are less expensive to overhaul than inline engines.
   B. The most popular diesel engine configuration is the V-type engine.
   C. In an inline engine, the cylinders are set at an angle to the crankshaft.
   D. V-type engines are normally shorter in length and lower in height than inline engines.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Only D is correct because

in V-type of engines the cylinder axis is aligned with the crankshaft in V shape which reduces height and can accomodate more number of piston in shorter length,so D is correct.

V-engines are more expensive to overhaul since they contain more and complex parts than inline engines,so A is incorrect.

Since Inline engines are more stable at high performance needs most of the diesel vehicles use Inline engines,so B is incorrect.

All the cylinders and pistons are set in a same plane and vertical in inline engines and this is also perpendicular to the axis of the common crankshaft,so C is incorrect.
