Consider the expression C(26, 3).
Use the general formula for combination,
C(n, r) = n!/r!(n – r)! ...... (1)
Substitute n = 26 and r = 3 in formula (1) C(n, r) = n!/r!(n – r)! and simplify,
C(26, 3) = 26!/3!(26 – 3)!
= 26!/3! × 23!
= (26 × 25 × 24 × 23!)/(3 × 2 × 1 × 23!)
= 2600
