Design a randomized control trial to measure whether use of an oral nicotine inhaler can result in long-term reduction in smoking
Step 1- Formulation of the hypothesis/ Objective of the study.
A study is to be conducted to measure whether the use of an oral nicotine inhaler cba result in long term reduction in smoking Or it can be a study of whether the use of an oral noctine inhaler can be an alternative to smoking and there by can bring a reduction in the smoking percetage in a long run
Step 2- Methodology /Data collection
This kind of test will be suitable to adopt the placebo effect which based on the theory that our brain can believe the body a fake treatment is the real thing and also it will e a double blind double blind method wherein the double blind trial inwhich neither the participant nor the experimentor know who is going to get the treatment
3. Time period
Also we need to fix a time period for the trial and a duration for the follow up as the we are going to study the long term tem effet we should fix at least a 2 year follow up and a say a six months trial
4. Sample size and data collection
for this we may require say around 1000 healthy people who are smokers and willing to reduce their smoking habit , and these sample can be collected through advertisement, and if the response is high we can select a sanoke siz randomly from this
5. Choice of treat ment
Here we can go for placebo
6. Selection of intervention and controled group
From the source data both the groups should be selcted randomly the control group and the experimented group
7. Collection of baseline measurement
Need to collect a base line data here it can be the number of cigerette consumed on a daily basis can be the base line and then only we will be able to find whether there is a reduction or not
8. Interim analysis
There should be a data collection of the results after 6 months and againat theend of the 2 years from both the groups
9 interpretation
To compare the restults we may use the F test and based on the P value and significance level we can conclude whether the nicotine inhaler is effective in reducing the smoking habit or not
