Explain in simple terms how pollutant gases increase the temperature of the troposphere, and describe the anticipated environmental and human health effects of global climate change.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The trophosphere gets affected considerably due to presence of gaseous pollutants. During day, a part of solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface gets absorbed. The ground re-radiates a part of this radiation. When pollutants are present in air at higher comcentrations, it traps more of the ground's re-radiation and thereby increases the average temparature of tge atmosphere. Some of the major pollutants are CO2, CO, SO2 etc.

The immediate effects of the global climate change is the ever increasing temparature around the world. It has increased by 1.4 degree Fahrenheit in the past 100 years.

The other major effect is melting of polar ice caps. This glacial retreat would result in rise in sea levels. Many coastal areas would be inundated.

The ecosystem is affected brutally as many species of plants and animals are getting dissappeared due to temparature extremes.

Warmer temparature and high concentration of carbon dioxide affects human health such as people with heart, respiratory diseases as well as allergy related disorders.

We would like to have a simple model to describe how temperature changes with time in your classroom during lecture in a typical day in Fall and Spring. You can consider two sets of average air temperature – one in October and other one in April for your analysis. Also, for simplicity, consider the entire room to be at one temperature T. Outside air (Ti,) comes in and reaches the temperature of the room through mixing, and this air leaves...
