Disease A is autosomal dominant. A total of 4% of the study population of 100 people are affected. How many carriers are in the study population?
Disease A is autosomal recessive. A total of 16% of the study population of 100 people are affected. How many carriers are in the study population?
TIA!
1. Disease is autosomal dominant so genotype of diseased individual will be( AA) or A2
Allele frequency of (A )=√4/100= 0.2
Assume this population to be Hardy weinberg equilibrium
Equation of hardy weinberg law = p+q =1
or
p2 +q2 + 2pq =1
p is frequency of dominant allele and q is frequency of recessive allele let p= A and q is =a
So frequency of a is = 1-A
= 1-0.2
0.8
Frequency of hetergyotes is 2pq
2*0.8*0.2= 0.32
No of carrier in population are 0.32*100= 32
Ans. 32
2. Disease is dominant so genotype of diseased individual is AA (16%)
Allele frequency of A is = √16/100
= 4/10= 0.4
Allele frequency of a is 1- 0.4
= 0.6
Frequency of heterzygotes is 2*0.6*0.4
= 0.48
No of carrier will be 0.48*100= 48 ans.
