The human body and the skeletal system can be broadly classified into different sections when appropriate planes are observed. The location of various bones with respect to the planes of body can be found as below:

1. Frontal/coronal plane: This sectional plane divides the body through the front portion into dorsal and ventral parts. The bones on the dorsal side would be the front part of the cranium, the cervical vertebrae, the sternum, toe bones. On the other hand, the bones on the ventral part would be the back part of the cranium, spine, pelvic and pectoral girdles.
2. Sagital/median plane: This sectional plance divides the body into two halves through the central division across the height. As a result, the body is divided into two parts laterally, each containing bones in the order of top to bottom as: Cranium, spine, pelvic girdle, pectoral girdle, the arms and legs.
3. Transverse plane: This sectional plance passes through the mid-line of the body in an individual and divides it into two parts, upper and lower. The upper part contains the cranium, thoracic cavity and associated bones, arms and the pectoral girdle. The lower part contains the pelvic girdle and the legs.
