compare and contrast the experiments performed by the earlier scientist John Needham and azarro Spallazani to support or reject the theory of spontaneous generation.what were the mitations of these experiments

Solutions

Expert Solution

Spontaneous generation- It was the theory stating that the living beings are generated from the non-living things spontaneously.

Comparison John needham lazarro spallazani
Experiments performed
  •   The broth infused with plant or animal matter was boiled to kill the pre-existing microbes.
  • sealed the flasks and allowed them to grow for a period of time.
  • Assuming that this heat treatment of broth could have killed the earlier organisms, John Needham explained that the presence of the new microbes are due to the spontaneous generation.
  • He took four different flasks with broth-

1.Open

2. sealed

3. Heated and open

4. Heated and sealed.

  • The the growth of microbes were checked in each of these.
  • It was absent from only 4. flask suggesting the flaws of the needham experiment.
Spontaneous generation theory This experiment supported the theory of spontaneous generation. His experiments rejected the theory of spontaneous generation.
Limitations
  • It doesn't rule out the fact that the new organisms could be due to some contamination present in the flask.
  • There could be a problem regarding heating or sealing of the tubes properly.
  • No direct proof of how the generation of new population from non-living matter has happened.
  • These results were not found to be convincing for proving the theory of spontaneous generation.

When a scientist conducted a genetics experiments with peas, one sample of offspring consisted of 903 peas, with 702 of them having red flowers. If we assume, as the scientist did, that under these circumstances, there is a 3 divided by 4 probability that a pea will have a red flower, we would expect that 677.25 (or about 677) of the peas would have red flowers, so the result of 702 peas with red flowers is more than expected. a....
