Assume you have isolated S.aureus from your skin. Design an experiment on how would you determine whether it is penicillin and erythromycin resistant? (Make sure to include a hypothesis and how you would design the experiment. Also include proper controls and discuss briefly the techniques you would use). I need one page please.
Hypothesis: The S.au is resistant to penicillin and erythromycin.
Experiment: Material and methods: In this experiment we will isolate the S.au from the skin in a swab and let it allow to gro in nutrient media for overnight to get the proper colonies of the S.au. Then we will prepare a Muller Hinton agar media (According to CLSI guidelines). This media will be distributed in five separate flasks
These media will be poured in petriplates and grouped as above five categories.
Then we will make take few microlitres of the overnight grown culture and spread it on petriplates containing agar media in the following categories
One Petriplate with only media will be left withoutculture as negative contro to check sterility of the media.
All the five plates will be incubated at 37 degree celcius in incubator.
Observation: After overnight, the plates will be observed
Inference: The staphylococcus aureus isolated from the skin is able to grow on media supplemented with penicillin and erythromycin separately as well as additively.
This shows that the S.au is resistant to both the antibiotics.
