Are common pendulums capable of doing exact simple harmonic motion if we set them to oscillate at any angle from the vertical?
Hey there!
Well simple pendulums can do simple harmonic motion, from any
angle with the same
time period from whichever angle released. The time period of
oscillation will always be the same for that pendulum which can be
given with the formula
where mass , m (kg) for a pendulum is a constant and K for each pendulum is a constant (N/m)
The conclusion is that each pendulum has it's own time
period respective of the mass of their bobs. But the Simple
Harmonic motion would not change because the time period of
oscillation does not vary with change in angle for the
release of the bob for each simple pendulums.
I hope the explanation helps... Cheers :).
