1). briefly describe problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and proactive coping. Which coping style is more appropriate when the situation is under your control? When isn't it?
2). describe the attributional styles. Which one are you? Do you think you could adjust some of the attributions you make?
1) problem focussed - in this type of coping aim is to reduce or eliminate the stressor or event that is causing stress. Its focus is on dealing with the problem directly and apply techniques to reduce the problem and stress.
Emotion focussed- in this type of coping the aim is to deal with the emotions occurrin as the result of the stressor. It helps in dealing with the negitive emotions of stress a person is facing and replacing it with positive emotions.
Proactive coping- it means to be prepared with measures and ways to deal with stress that will be coming or can come in future . It requires the person to be more self aware and attentive .
When situation is under our control then the most effective way of coping would be proactive coping . It will ensure that , that particular stressor will not affect us in future again. It will help us deal with such stressors more effectively in future without any loss.
When situation is not under control the best way is to use a problem focussed coping strategy that would directly aim to finish off the problem and thus reducing the stress levels resulting in change in emotions from negitive to positive.
2) Attribution is basically judging people for their behaviours either by attributing it to internal factors or external factors . Two types of attributional styles are internal amd external.
Internal attribution is basically when we tend to attribute a behaviour to internal factors rather than outside factors. For instance when we score food in a test we say its because of my hard work .
External attribution is giving weightage to factors that are in the environment . For instance when we score bad in an exam we say its because of the teacher’s bad mood .
