Vibrio cholerae
Robert Koch who is the father of bacteriology first discovered the vibrio cholera as a causative agent of cholera in 1884. Louis Pasteur developed the cholera vaccine in 1885. cholera is an infectious disease.

cases:- 1.3 million to 4.0 million per year in all
over world.
Death per year
:- 20,000 to 1,43000 per year.
Transmission
:- Transmission is nothing but, how or through
which way the disease is spreading among the population.
1. Intake of contaminated water or food.
2. fruit flies.

is the classification according to each taxonomic category.

Class :- Gammaproteobacteria
Order :- vibrionales
Family :- vibrionaceae
Genus :- vibrio
Species :- cholerae.
Signs and symptoms
:- Signs and symptoms occurs when the person is
already infected with that particular microbe.
1. Diarrhoea
2. Vomiting and nausea
3. Dehydration
4. Rapid heart rate
5. Low blood pressure
6. Abdominal pain
Identification
:- stool samples can help to identify the disease,
as we know that these bacteria are found in the excreta.
rapid cholera dipstick test (it is performed in test tubes which
contains the stools of the infected person).
Prevention :-
These are the measures taken when to prevent any kind of
disease.
1. Eat fully cooked food.
2. Consumption of clean drinking water, food, vegetables, fruits,
etc.
3. Proper disposal of waste and excreta.
4. Wash hand before eating anything.
5. Make use of clean utensils.
6. Avoid the vegetables or fruits grown with the water contaminated
with human excreta because this excreta of infected person can
transmit these bacteria to vegetables and intake of these
vegetables can cause cholera.
Treatment :-
Cholera vaccine.
Antibiotics like tetracycline, doxycycline, furazolidone,
ciprofloxacin etc.
Oral rehydration salts can be given through juices to rehydrate the
body.
