Clostridium tetani
Disease information-Tetanus or lockjaw
Number of cases and dealths per year-The case-fatality rate is 13.2 percent overall, but is 31.3 percent among individuals ≥65 years of age . One million cases of tetanus occur each year, worldwide, with approximately 300,000-500,000 dealths.

Signs and symptoms -Spasms and stiffness in your jaw muscles (trismus) Stiffness of your neck muscles. Difficulty swallowing.
Identification-Gram positive (terminal spores with drum stick appearance) ,bacilli are 2mm x 0.5mm in size and usually occur singly although occasionally in chains. They possess flagellae and are motile when young.
Prevention and treatment information-Tetanus is acquired through infection of a cut or wound with the spores of the bacterium Clostridium tetani, and occur within 14 days of infection. It cannot be transmitted from person to person and can be prevented through immunization with tetanus-toxoid-containing vaccines (TTCV)
