Is sovereignty being threatened by globalization? Bring reasoning for your arguments.
Globalization has been one of the most important phenomena of this century. However, there has been a lot of debate surrounding globalisation lately, especially after the corona virus pandemic.
Critics of globalisation say that globalisation puts a threat to the sovereignty of nations. They argue that as the foreign entities (MNS and TNCs) capture the local markets of the nations, they acquire a very strong hold on the nations resources, which they can then use to influence the local governments and political system.
Second threat has occurred due to the cyberspace control. Internet has not just linked people across nations, they have also posed threat to the data privacy of the nations. Every individual on internet is a source of data that can be misused against the country. Cyberwar has entered the world and this has been credited (blamed) on globalisation.
Third threat is due to the increased investments. Investment is considered very vital in economics and it indeed is. However, when most of the investment of a nation comes from foreign countries, it is likely to be influenced by the funding nation, which can effect the decision making strength of the local governments.
There are many such issues that have led to an increasing share of people to have a view that globalisation has effected sovereignty of nations.
