Louis Pasteur said, “The role of the infinitely small in nature is infinitely large.” Explain what he meant, using examples of the roles of microorganisms in health, industry, and the environment.
ANSWER :
There are various forms of microorganisms found in the air, water, earth, and inside the body of living organisms as well, which included in two major groups as bacteria and fungi. These provide a major contribution to sustain and stabilize the ecosystem activities, and have a great role in the pharmaceutical industry, and health benefits to individuals.
Several medicines (antibiotics, and vaccines) are made from the different species of bacteria and fungi, and microbes or microbiota that live in the gastrointestinal tract release some essential nutrients as well as protect from certain infections. The decomposition of dead organic matter of plants and animals is perform via specific bacteria and fungal species, hence they also act as scavenger or top level consumer in the ecosystem.
It proves that the statement of Louis Pasteur, " The role of infinitely small in nature is infinitely large".
