1) four mechanical solutions principals engage/dimenton of standard disk clutch

2) what is the most essential parameters for designing a flywheel in relation to use their main purpose.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1).

Four mechanical solution principals for engage of standard disk clutch:

  • A clutch is a device which allows gradual connection of two shafts rotating at different speed. When a rotating shaft is started from rest, it should be accelerated to the desired speed for engaging.
  • A clutch is generally designed such that it should have high friction to transmit more energy.
  • A standard disk clutch is a clutch in which the mating parts move in a parallel direction to the shaft.
  • Uniform wear theory or pressure theory are used for torque calculations.

2).

A flywheel is an inertial storage device. A flywheel absorbs mechanical rotational energy and serves as a reservoir of energy. Flywheel stores energy when the supply of energy is more than the production and releases energy when the requirement of energy is more than the supply.

The main function of a fly wheel is to smoothen out variations in the speed of a shaft caused by torque fluctuations. For designing a flywheel, thus, the amount of energy required is found and the mass moment of inertia needed to absorb that energy is determined. Then, the flywheel geometry is defined for the required moment of inertia at the designed speeds of operation. This is the most essential parameters for designing a flywheel.
