ELDER ABUSE
DEFINITION: INTENTIONAL ACT OR FAILURE TO ACT , BY A CAREGIVER OR ANY ANOTHER PERSON IN A RELATIONSHIP INVOLVING AN EXPECTATION OF TRUST THAT CAUSES OR CREATES A RISK OF HARM TO OLDERADULT ( OLDER ADULT MEANS SOMEONE AGE IS 60 OR MORE YEARS )
1.PHYSICAL ABUSE :
THE INTENTIONAL ISE OF PHYSICAL FORCE THAT RESULTS IN ACUTE OR CHRONIC ILLNESS, BODILY INJURY,PAIN ,FUNCTIONAL IMPAIREMENT ,DISTRESS SOMETIMES DEATH. IT MAY INCLUDE BEATING,HITTING,SLAPPING,BITING, CHOKING,PUSHING PINCHING,BURNING.
2.SEXUAL ABUSE
FORCED OR UNWANTED SEXUAL INTERACTION (TOUCHING AND NON TOUCHING ACTS) WITH AN OLDER ADULT.
3.EMOTIONAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE:
VERBAL OR NON-VERBAL BEHAVIOUR THAT RESULTS IN THE INFLICTION OF ANGUISH,MENTALPAIN,FEAR, OR DISTRESS.

BEHAVIOURS INTENDED TO HUMILATE(CALLING NAMES OR INSULTS )
THREATEN(EXPRESSING AN INTENT TO INITIATE NURSING HOMEPLACEMENT)
ISOLATE(SECLUSION FROM FAMILY)

4. NEGLECT
FAILURE BY CAREGIVER OR OTHER RESPONSIBLE PERSON TO PROTECT AN ELDER FROM HARM,OR THE FAILURE TO MEET NEEDS OFMEDICALCARE,NUTRITION,HYDRATION,HYGEINE, CLOTHING,BASIC ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING OR SHELTER, WHICH RESULTS IN A SERIOUS RISK OF COMPROMISED HEALTH AND SAFETY.
5.FINANCIAL ABUSE:
THE ILLEGAL OR UNAUTHORISED,OR IMPROPER USE OF ANOLDER INDIVIDUAL'SRESOURCES BY A CAREGIVER OR OTHER PERSON IN A TRUSTING RELATIONSHIP, FOR BENEFIT OF SOMEONE OTHER TAN THE OLDER INDIVIDUAL.
