Expert Solution

Cotyledon is the leaf part of the embryo which becomes the first seeling leaf after the germination is called as the cotyledons.

It is the leaf like structure in the embryo and they are the first part which appears above the ground after germination.

Angiosperms are the flowering plants which have the seeds in their fruit and are the most developed and largest group of the kingdom plantae.

They are classified into two on the basis of the cotyledon and they are :

  • Monocotyledon
  • Diacotyledon

Those species which are having one cotyledon in there seeds are called monocotyledon and those which have two cotyledon in there seeds are called diacotyledon.

Some of the difference between the two cotyledons are:

  • Monocotyledon have only single cotyledon while diacotyledon have two in there embryo.
  • Secondary Growth is absent in monocots while present in case of dicots.
  • Fllowering parts are present in multiple of three in monocots while they are in multiple of four or five in dicots.
  • Roots are adventitious in the monocot and in dicots root develope from the radicals.
  • Major leaves veins are seen to be parellel in monocot and are seen reticulated in the dicots.
  • The leaves are dorsoventral in the dicots and isobilateral in the monocots
  • Dicots have stomata on the only one surface of the leaves and monocots have stomata on the both surface of the leaves.

These are the some differences between the monocot and dicots of the angiosperms.

Dicots examples are pea , beans etc and rice maize etc are the examples of the monocots.

This is the description of the cotyledons and hope meets your requirement.
