Write a balanced chemical equation for the following chemical reactions:
A. Aqueous solutions of potassium iodide and silver (I) nitrate react to form silver (I) iodide precipitate and aqueous potassium nitrate.
B. Iron wool is heated with oxygen gas to produce gray iron (III) oxide.
C. Magnesium metal reacts with nitric acid to yield aqueous magnesium nitrate and hydrogen gas.
D. Tin (II) chlorate decomposes on heating to give solid tin (II) chloride and oxygen gas.
Ans :
To write the reactions we start by writing out the skeletal equation first. Then the elements on the left are made equal to the ones present on right. The physical states of all the species are mentioned.
a)
KI (aq) + AgNO3 (aq) = AgI (s) + KNO3
b)
2Fe (s) + 3O2 (g) = 2Fe2O3 (s)
c)
Mg (s) + 2HNO3 (aq) = Mg(NO3)2 (aq) + H2 (g)
d)
Sn(ClO3)2 (g) = SnCl2 (s) + 3O2 (g)
