Statistica is a well-known database that caters to the research requirements of economists and data scientists. The penetration rate for Statistica is however, not as high as compared to similar products in the market with much less functionality. A market research report on the use of Statistica shows that the main reason individual researchers haven’t signed up for the database is the price.

To boost revenues, the top management of CIE Ltd., the creator of Statistica is contemplating a promotional price. Since this offer will be a part of our supplier promotion plan and will be publicised, the same deal has to be offered to our existing subscribers as well. A genuine concern of the top management is that the additional subscribers generated by the lower price may not fully offset the revenues lost from our existing base of subscribers.

Based on data on the current sales in the excel sheet, please comment whether lowering the price will yield higher revenues? Can you also arrive at an estimate of the maximum monthly revenues that can be achieved?

Please write your answer in the answer sheet. Excel calculations need to be attached too. Answers without excel sheet will not be evaluated (sheet attached).

Do some research on a topic known to economists as the 'friction-free' or ‘low-friction’ economy. Early writers on this topic foresaw many of the seismic shifts that have occurred in the market place over the past one to two decades.  Some of these early writings on ‘friction’ discussed many of the business tools we now think of as either commonplace or even obsolete.  It is sometimes hard to imagine that businesses once embraced overnight mail, inexpensive fax machines, and email as being...

According to some social scientists and economists, automation is not the problem, the skills gaps is a better explanation for high unemployment among low-wage earners. What are the two sides of the skills gap debate? Which side do you fall on and why? Why isn't automation apart of the political conversation on unemployment as opposed to illegal immigration, given the number and job sectors affected by automation?
