What do you need to consider when writing and agreeing on performance improvement and development plansin accordance with organisational policies?
While preparing the performance and development improvement plan for an organization, the following are areas under consideration.
1. Review performance
Employees at first should review their performance over the indicated time period and evaluate what all things went well and what didn’t and what is the reason and more importantly what they would like to focus on in the coming quarter.
Manager should provide a brief performance review summary for employees beforehand to give them direction as they prepare their reports.
2. Identify goals for improvement
Next, employees should be able to make goals based on the areas they want to improve.
The goals should be specific, aligned with the organization’s goals, and realistic. It’s good to have goals that stretch your employees, but they must also be achievable within the given time period and based on available resources. Consider using the smart goals framework to help the team members set goals they can reasonably achieve.
3. List actionable steps to achieve those goals
For each and every goal, employees should list specific steps they will take in order to achieve their goals. Without an actionable plan, it will be more difficult to make or track progress in their achievements.

With goals set and a plans in action, it’s time for the employee to present their Process improvement and development plan. The employee and the manager should together review the plan to make sure their goals are appropriate and are aligned within the organizational policies and finalize the plan of action aacordingly.
