the end of Prophase I. At puberty hormones trigger meiosis to proceed for a few oocytes in
each month. At the same time the hormones trigger mitosis for the surrounding follicle cells
that support the oocyte. How many chromosomes are present in the developing oocytes of a baby girl?

Since in a baby girl the process of meiosis is arrested at Prophase I, the cell will be having diploid number of chromosomes ie, 46.or 2n number of chromosomes. It only after puberty that the oocytes actually divide and have half the number of chromosomes.
