The development of linear programming is perhaps among the most important scientific advances of the mid-20th century. Today, it is one of the standard tools that has saved many millions of dollars for most companies and enterprises.

Identify at least two reasons for the importance of linear programming in an enterprise of your choice and describe the impact that linear programming has had in that enterprise in recent decades. Provide a specific example of a linear programming model related to the enterprise that you have selected and interpret the slack variables of your example. Describe how the information obtained about the slack variables of your example can be used by the decision-making sector of that enterprise. (You do not have to write a mathematical formulation of your example. Simply mention the objective, the decision variables, and a few possible constraints to describe your model example).

Perhaps, the most important technical feature to learn in the course, is the concept of "cookies" . We briefly discussed this important notion in our first week. Two ideas are important here. Functionality and privacy. The first, refers to this very useful feature of tracking user surfing/navigational behaviour. The second has to do with privacy. To what extent keeping records of consumer, consented or not, is ethical or even legal. Here is an entry, by the FASKEN Institute on the...

Why was the invention of programming more important than the development of hardware for the evolution of computers? Why do you think that Xerox failed to exploit the graphical user interface and instead let Steve Jobs and Apple use it to capture the personal computer market? Like other inventions, how was the personal computer shaped by the time and place it was first developed?Did social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, “cause” the Arab Spring uprisings? Why or why not?...

Interger Programming and Nonlinear Programing are two important extensions of the basic Simplex Linear Programing model. How does each differ from Simplex in theory and practice? How does Solver adjust for these two extensions? What about Rosenbrock’s method, cutting plane procedure, and interior point methods?
