What is the difference between a stress and a strain? Which is the cause and which is the effect? Provide one example to illustrate each and explain the difference in detail.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Stress is defined as internal force of resitituation up per unit area of a deformed body. Where as Strain is the ratio of change in diemension per unit original diemnsion.

The unit of stress is N/m2 where as strain is unitless and dimensionless.

Strain is the cause where as the stress if effect because when we produce a strain then only internal restoring force get developed.
