Please state two research questions that might be answered with a Null hypothesis significance test/ please state in everyday language what the "NULL/COMPARISON" hypotheses would be, as well as the ALTERNATIVE/RESEARCH hypothesis.
A research question is a brief or to the point query on social or economical or any field of interest of a researcher on which he is supposed to work on. It is the first topic any researcher should focus on.
Two example of research question with hypothesis are :
1. Does the big five personality traits (extroversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, openness to experience, conscientiousness) affect the academic performance of a student?
Thwre can be five hypothesis, one for each of the personality traits.
Null hypothesis H01 : Extroversion do not affect the academic performance of a student.
Alternative hypothesis H11 : Extraversion affects the academic performance of a student.
H02 : Neuroticism does not affect the academic performance of a student.
H12 : Neuroticism affects the academic performance of a student.
H03 : agreeableness does not affect the academic performance of a student.
H13 : agreeableness affects the academic performance of a student.
Etc.
2. Whether the new laws have any effect on the number of people who drive after drinking in New York city?
Null hypothesis H0 : The new laws have no effect on the number on the number of people who drive after drinking in the New York city.
Alternative hypothesis H1 : The new laws have a significant effect on the number of people who drive after drinking i.e they resulted in reduced number of drunk drivers.
