Five functions that every manager must perform are:

1.Planning:Planning refers to the making of some action plan beforehand to achieve some desired goal of the organisation.Planning must be done keeping in mind the availability of organisational resources and ability.Planning is the first step to achieve certain mission.It is the stepping stone.Manager should perform this function with utmost clarification.

2.Organizing:This is the second function for a manager to accomplish. Organizing refers to the process of putting the resources in right place and to organize the employees for the appropriate task according to the plan.A well organized staff,capital is required to actively reach to the goal of the plan.

3.Staffing:Staffing can be regarded as one kind of specialization.According to the ability and specialization for particular tasks staffing should be done.A manager should put employees to the tasks based on their ability.Manager appoints individuals according to the need.

4.Directing:Directing is one of the very important function of manager.Manager tries to direct the employees as to how the work to be done.It guides the newly appointed individuals to achieve the desired goal.Motivation and communication are key element in direction.Manager always motivates its employees to work better and communicates with them as and when required.Positive inter personal relationship between manager and employee is worth required to achieve desired objective.

5.Controlling:Controlling refers to how manager controls the entire operation.A manager must look into how all the works are being done.Whether all are working or not ,whether all of the functions are operating smoothly.Controlling also means that a manager should always monitor the company's progress.
