Autodesk Inventor 2019 Essentials Plus: Creating and Editing Sketched Features
If the answer is FALSE write a complete sentence explanation of why the answer is FALSE.
1.What is a base feature?
2.When creating a revolve feature, which objects can be used as an axis of revolution?
3.Explain how to create a linear diameter (diametric) dimension on a sketch.
4.Name two ways to edit an existing feature.
5.True__ False__ Once a sketch becomes a base feature, you cannot delete or add constraints, dimensions, or objects to the sketch.
6.True__ False__ By default geometry that is projected from one face to a sketch will update automatically based on changes to the original projected geometry.
7.Explain what the Asymmetric option does for the extrude and revolve commands.
8.Where do you set the physical material property of a part?
9.True__ False__ After setting a part’s material properties, the Appearance setting in the Quick Access Toolbar must be set to Color Matching for the appearance to match the material of the part.
10.True__ False__ By default, when a feature is deleted, the feature’s sketch will be maintained.
1. What is a base feature?
Ans: A first sketched or starting feature which is constructed from 2D or 3D sketches which are added in the / to the part modeling is called base feature. Based on this feature remaining modeling will be done, and it's independent feature.
2. When creating a revolve feature, which objects can be used as an axis of revolution?
Ans: Any straight edge (may or may not be the same sketch), center line, working axes or origin axes about which profile should be revolved and construction line can also be used as the axis of revolution.
3. Explain how to create a linear diameter (diametric) dimension on a sketch?
Ans: To create a linear diameter dimension need to use either centerline or normal line.
First by Centerline: Generally used with revolve feature. First, draw the quarter profile and centerline. Start the dimension command and select centerline and edge or point of the profile(order of selection doesn't matter) and move the cursor until the correct position of the diameter dimension is achieved.
By using the Normal line: First, draw the profile and then draw the normal line. Start the dimension command and select the normal line first and then edge or point of profile and move the cursor until the correct position of the diameter dimension is achieved.
4. Name two ways to edit an existing feature?
Ans: Using Edit feature command by right click on the feature to be edited and selecting edit feature. Change a feature by changing values of the sketch or solid. Features and models can be edited by 3D Grips also.
5. Once a sketch becomes a base feature, you cannot delete or add constraints, dimensions, or objects to the sketch.
Ans: False. You can add or delete constraints or objects at any time but you need to modify accordingly. If constraints are given with respect to base feature it may create error, in such cases, it needs to be modified.
6. True, when the modification is done on parent geometry from which it is projected then projected geometry will automatically change and updates itself accordingly.
7. In extrusion asymmetric option allows a user to give different extents in positive and negative sides of extrusion. For example, a 2D sketch drawn in XY plane needs to extrude 20mm in negative Z axis and 50mm in + Z axis in such cases asymmetry option helps. In revolution asymmetric allows user to give different angles for negative and positive directions of revolution about its axis of revolution.
8 Ans : In Inventor applicaiton menu click iProperties or right click on the part and select iProperties then in iProperties dialogue box select physical tab and select material from the drop down list.
9. False. Color of the part changes according to the material selected automatically. If color doesn't update then need to change from color area accesed from Quick acess tool bar.
10 True. When we delete a feature, feature only gets deleted like extrusion or revolution but its base sketch will be remained, it wont get deleted.
