8.63 In the 1920's about 97% of US colleges and universities required a physical education course. A recent study of physical education requirements include 354 institutions: 225 private and 129 public. Among private institutions, 60 required physical education while among public institutions, 101 required a course.

e) use a significance test to compare the private and the public institutions in regard to the physical education requirement.

If using software, please explain how software was used. Thanks!

Solutions

Expert Solution

we need to test that proportion of Public institutes needs physical education is equal to the proportion of private institutes needs physical education so

here p1 is for Public and p2 for private

for the public we have

n1=129 x1=101

for privzte

n2=225 x2=60

now

Now test statisitics is given by

since test is two tailed so

P-Value =2*P(Z>18.8506) < 0.0001

since P value is very small so we reject H0 hence we have enough evidence to support the claim that p1 and p2 are different.
