Why are there are multiple stock markets, why is there more than one? Why is a company listed on one versus another?

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are more than one stock market because this is a global economy and there is a need for more than one market and these stock markets of specialisation even in one economy like in United States, like Dow Jones is for largest 30 years company in United States, and NASDAQ is for technology specific companies whereas S&P 500 is for 500 companies which are listed on the American stock exchanges.

So,a lot of stock exchange offer specialisation in their offerings as each index had its on constituents dependent upon its nature.Different types of indexes are also based upon it's compositions like Dow is a price weighted index where as S& P is a value weighted index so these index often offer specialisation as the kind of stock which are listed in them.

A company is listed because it helps the company to gain recognition as well as raise funding from the market, it can help the company in also going Global at some future stage of its life cycle.
