whats the advantage of the extended media surface area in pleated filters?..a filter can be flipped over when one side is dirty...b. can be folded..c. creates cyclonic filtration action between the pleats..d. provides much greater dust-holding ability
The surface to volume ratio in the extended media surface in pleated filters can be very high giving a much reactive surface for a limited volume and mass of the filter. The advantages of using extended media surface area in filters are manyfold, few among them are the following: firstly, any material surface has unsaturated bonds which are pron to react with foreign atoms and attach them easily. Since the surface area is high the filter can be used to adhere a much number of dust particles. Secondly due to dust particles adhere chemically with the filter surface this adhesion is much more efficient then the simple dust trap by the fibers on the filter. The dust particle can rest there efficiently and for longer time until the filter is chemically washed or heated to make it ready to reuse.
Therefore I am convinced with the answer d, i.e. the extended media surface area in pleated filters provides much greater dust-holding ability since the number of dust particles as well as the force of adhesiveness, both contribute to the dust holding ability of the filter.
