Global Warming :

Introduction -

Global warming is basically regarded as the unusual rise in the Earth's temperature which has been more prone over the past century and greenhouse gases along with fossil fuel's burning is one of its main causes. In more technical terms , this heating or raising temperature is nothing but the changes in the climatic conditions of the Earth which has been observed from the pre industrial period i.e. from 1850-1900 . These changes are in the humidity levels , duration of seasons , rainfall pattern, global temperature levels which have changed over long period of time

Factors causing global warming -

  • Burning of fossil fuels : buy utilising the fossil fuels or other gases to create electricity and power we tend to release carbon dioxide in atmosphere, as just for Australia 73% of there energy comes from burning coal and 13% from the gases .
  • Tree clearing : with more population to feed and bringing more area to be civilised or urbanised many places rich in greenery have been cleared to build areas for people to live and settle. This removal release back carbon in atmosphere as carbon dioxide contributes to global warming
  • Agriculture and breeding : many times animals also tend to emitt methane another greenhouse gas , and there grazing also clears alot of clear alot of green clear and even agriculture's fertilisers also tend to release nitrous oxide another greenhouse gas .
  • Heavy use of vehicles : more of private vehicles being in use has also bought heights in the level of gases those are emitted from the vehicles , all over the world the fossil fuels are being used in terms of petrol and diesel to run the daily vehicles causing the temperature to go high above .
  • Greenhouse gases : greenhouse itself is an artificial environment made, where the walls and roofs are made of glass i.e. transparent material that helps the plants to grow in an artifically controlled conditions there size can vary from as huge as an industrial size area to a small size plot. However, anything artificial has its own side effects so does it has the gases released from it are highly warm making the temperature rise to hieghts causing global warming.
  • Pollution levels : its more of a visa versa case wherein the pollution as in form of untreated industrial waste or from cars, burning in open to waste disposal everything in its own way is causing pollution doing further wrong to the environment as the gases when released do no good to the environment as again pollute it and raise the temperature of the Earth's surface causing global warming

Effects of global warming -

  • Melting of ice caps : each and every corner of the world is a home to some organism whether it's equator or the poles however with this forever rising temperature the polar caps have been melting causing the problem to the living species there as poloar bears, artic foxes etc all these animals are genetically designed to live in such places and there possibility to adapt other climatic conditions owing to there biological structure is next to impossible there after its causing risk to the lives of extreme species of animals
  • Climatic Changes : coming from uneven seasonal changes to differtiantial pattern of the geographical area, now with humankind expanding its area to every place those very regions are also loosing it's own identity, the coolest regions like Antarctica are no more that cold can human body cant survive people have found ways to live in such places by using different energy sources which directly effects the environmental conditions of that area
  • Rising sea levels : one of the biggest outcome of global warming afterall where does the whole metled ices goes to, the water bodies. The sea levels many times in monsoon season tend to cross the safe levels bringing floods and tsunami and irregularities in water current causing destruction are common examples of it
  • Degrading environment : the environment as whole is at risk , because the point when the the global warming brings hazardous effect on environment as unpattern climatic conditions, along with social problems as a possible societial effect cause people are suffering cause of degraded environment conditions.
  • Plants and animals : many species of plants and animals are moving towards the higher altitudes as result of global warming, it is from the extent that from equator towards poles. And owing to the rate of climatic change velocity is faster than the ability of organisms to migrate causing there extinction, even birds and insects breeding and nesting grounds have also changed by weeks according to EPA.
  • Human health : cancers and other sever disease are so common as result of unhealthy air or UV rays that comes from sun cause of global warming the ozone has depleted opening the gateways to many diseases and problems like skin cancer.

Steps to reduce global warming -

  • Use Fluorescent light bulbs : fluorescent light bulbs consume tend to consume only 25% of energy as compared to incandescent bulbs
  • Change your Monitor with LCD : using LCD , takes about 56% Energy than that of monitor
  • Uses of Solar Energy : burning fuels tend to pollute more than anything , but using renewal souces like solar energy tend to do no harm to the environment
  • Plant Trees : planting trees is one small step that can be taken by any individual without incurring any heavy cost and that is really beneficial in the long run
  • Use Electric or Hybrid Car : another substitute to non renewaable source of energy as cars are medium of travel and also cause of huge air pollution but this can be controlled by using electric cars
  • Avoid lighting at day : its more of utilising energy for no cause as in day sunlight is enough to luminate the surroundings therefore avoiding light in day can save power
  • Reduce Trash : trash is another factor of pollution that if not disposed properly causes high levels of global warming therefore reducing unnecessary trash can reduce the levels .
  • Make high roofs : it tends to reduce heat on it materials like ceramic and soil tend to regulate the house temperature
  • Get house insulated : from all levels i.e. lower , crawls ,ceiling and walls to help in temperature regulation
  • Grow own foods : doing so would help to reduce the expenses of gases and time given in it, even fertilisers used in agriculture won't be there to pollute
  • Save Clean Water :  most importantly is to save Clean water as this can directly help as in this time where water crisis is probably soon to happen we would need energy to process in order to clean water and saving it would help to save energy

Barriers to reduce global warming -

  • Drop in bucket problem : people are somewhere aware of the fact that just one individual effort won't do any good infact not of one nation untill and unless globally all nations and there government do not actively participate in it
  • Rationalism : factors like environment is somewhat out off human control therefore people find it little not so rational to do efforts towards something which is already beyond the control and game of there own
  • Absence of payoffs : no such rewards or benefit directly is given to any , already people do have there own Monetory , socially and personal life problems without seeing an incentive to do ,people don't care much
  • Time frame and beneficiary : today's generation may understand it a little few However, the perception of all cannot be bought under the same view all work as per there own ideology for some it might be a critical issue others may find it to be totally out of control to play there role in it
  • Defaulting policies - making policies to control the levels is not enough a regular check and analysing that they are being practiced or not is one thing , however time and again factories are found voilating environmental norms and giving fines they are realised
  • Role of media - it plays a very crucial role to picturise something in the minds of public as many a times the natural disasters are shown and how they have effected the people's life but the cause and reason of its occurance are often ignored .
  • General awareness - people do know superficially about a lot of things but the core knowledge is required so that they can understand the importance and need to take steps and unlike other processes such climatic transformation are irreversible and can cause inevitable damages

CONCLUSION -

Global warming though a issue which might be no new to ears still is lacking the support of people , as collective efforts can bring huge outcomes . As the things done to the environment by the human race will have multiplicative effect when it comes back in form of calamities.
