' Jury of Her Peers' released in the year 1980 is directed by Sally Heckel. The story is set in the 1900s of America and revolves around a farm woman who is accused of murdering her husband. It is a movie that created quite a revolution of its kind.
The film deals with the murder and the investigation of it by two female characters. The film starts with the two women Dickinson County and Martha Hale called to the crime. Upon entering the crime scene (the dead man's house Mr. Wright) because of the nature of the two women of curiosity and minute attention to detail they are able to solve the mystery of the crime that their male counterparts couldn't, thus coming to the conclusion that the husband is strangled. After the attention to the evidence of dead bird in the box that other male counterparts of theirs totally ignored, they realise through this same evidence and by the knowledge of feminine psychology of the wife's guilt, provocations and hidden motives. Then they come to the conclusion that it's the wife who is the killer as the husband took away from her something she loved the most(singing) and the dead strangled bird killed by her husband a symbol of the same. Thus the film ends with the two women trying to hide this from the men about the wife being the killer as they believe her actions are completely justified.
The best thing about the film was how it portrays that two rural women believed to be of subordinate intelligence to men, solve the crime mystery that their male counterparts couldn't. It is an excellent movie to watch that revolutionalised films and is considered as a supreme example of early feminist works.
