Sustainable tourism refers to a form of tourism which meets the needs and wants of the travelers without sacrificing the needs of future generations. Sustainable tourism aims to promote tourism without harming the natural resources in an eco0nmy. Sustainable tourism gives importance to the social cultural authenticity of the society, contribute inter cultural under5standing, respect the traditional values of the places etc. It is a responsible tourism under which the environment is given ultimate priority. Sustainable development can be achieved in a society through implementation of sustainable tourism methods.

Wayanad is a district locate within India specifically in the north east of kerala.

POSITIVE EFFECT OF TOURISM IN WAYANAD.

* Tourism helped to increase the employment opportunities in Wayanad.

The low income groups in the district was benefited by increasing the scope of tourism in the place. The income of taxi drivers, rickshaw drivers etc increase rapidly.

* The tourism promoted social interaction in the district wayanad.

The wayanad is a district consisting of ,many tribe groups. The tourism enabled the exchange off cultural values among these tribes. Which later resulted in the socio cultural development of the place.

* It boost the overall development off thee district and increased the standard of living of people.

The income from the tourism sector was used by the government to improve the development of the society and also to improve standard of living of people. Government implemented many packages and provide adequate funds to the local governments.

Deforestation was the major issue faced in the district as a part of encouraging tourism. The water and land resources get polluted while constructing restaurants and hotels.

The tourism changed the rituals of three tribes completely. The cultural development in the place resulted in the loss of traditional festivals and values among tribes.
