The most common mistake when it comes to taking care of a patient is the communication between the clinician and the patient. And one of the major technology that helps in correcting this in our daily lives is the electronic prescription.

What is electronic prescription ?

Electronic prescription are prescription by the clinician which are send electronically to the pharmacy.

What is the advantage?

We must all have encountered a situation where it became difficult for a pharmaceutical staff and ourself to read what was written on the prescription by a doctor. There may also have been situations where we lost the prescription and it was hard to remember the medication in it. These are daily life mistake that we make but what costs us a lot of time and energy. After introducing electronic prescribing the prescription reaches the pharmacy directly and there are no errors or burden of carrying the prescription.

How does the technology ensures patient safety?

There has been incidents where patients were prescribed one medication but got a different one which resulted in very devastating effects for the patients because he/she consumed the wrong medication. These are common situations that a nurse or physician has to encounter. In my experience after introduction of this technology into the field of medicine there has been a dramatic decrease in such cases and consumption of wrong medication.

To conclude introduction of IT field into medicine has been a great change for the doctors as well as the patients and has made things simple and accurate.
