The role of labor in the U.S. has diminished as unions became weaker. Discuss.

Solutions

Expert Solution

It is true that unions have become weaker, but there are many laws and regulations that protect the labor and help labor force to raise their concerns if injustice or discrimination is delivered to them. There are Title VII of civil rights act, 2964, equal employment opportunity commission, equal pay act, 1963, and family and medical leave act among the many others that protect the labor and give voice to the labor. So, it is not right to say that weakening of unions, has suppressed the role of labor in the USA. Rather, now the employees demand higher wage and compensation if they deserve and make the labor market to be more competitive. Also, workers now do not need to pay the union membership fees, other union expenses and follow them in all their right and wrong causes. So, workers now feel more freedom and they can bargain on the basis of capabilities and employability skills they own. It can happen that collective bargaining is now vanished, but the above mentioned laws are stringent and ready to protect them if an employer tries to exploit or discriminate in nay capacity. So, role of labor is not diminished, rather it is more efficient, collaborative and value based in nature.
