A student put a red rose under blue light and the rose appears black. Student places rose under red light and it appears red. Explain this student's conclusion using the laws of physics and color.
To answer this question, we shall first look at the process dealing with the vision of different colours.
Whenever a white light is made to fall on an object , the object absorbs all the colours from white light except one particular colour and this particular colour is reflected off the surface of the object and the object appears to be off that particular reflected colour.
So now coming back to our original question,
When a red rose is put under white light , it absorbs all the colours except the red and hence it appears red because red is reflected from rose. Now if we see the rose in blue light , it would absorb the blue light and no colour will be reflected off the rose and it starts to appear black .
Similarly if we see red rose under red light , then it will not absorb any colour and will reflect the red colour and it will start appearing red .
