State the hypotheses of the causes of why: of each of the
following alternatives.
A) automobile (without gasoline and without brake) slows down and
stops;
b) a book that slides on the table slows down and stops;
c) a falling chalk increases its speed until it hits the
ground;
d) a ball rolling down a slope increases its speed until it reaches
the lowest part;
e) The Moon moves around Earth and moves with approximately
constant speed.
Part two:
Design an experiment where you check that the acceleration coincides with the direction of the resulting force.
State the hypotheses of the
causes of why: of each of the following alternatives.
a) automobile (without
gasoline and without brake) slows down and
stops;
Answer: Friction force
and resistance from the ground or road slows down the
automobile.
b) a book that
slides on the table slows down and stops;
Answer: Friction force
(resistance from the table surface) slows down the book which was
sliding.
c) a falling chalk
increases its speed until it hits the ground;
Answer: Its speed
increases due to conversion of potential energy into kinetic
energy.
d) a ball rolling
down a slope increases its speed until it reaches the lowest
part;
Answer: Its speed
increases due to conversion of potential energy into kinetic
energy.
e) The Moon moves
around Earth and moves with approximately constant
speed.
Answer: Gravitational attraction between Earth and moon which provides the centripetal force remains constant. So, speed of moon is also constant.
