Sergio is single, is paid $2,400 per week, and claims one withholding allowance. What is the amount of federal income tax withheld from Sergio's gross wages for the week using the Wage Bracket Method tables? Year 2017. Show Work

Solutions

Expert Solution

As the wages is more than $1250 dollars we will use percentage method because as per rules if we cant use wage bracket tables because wages exceed the amount shown in the last bracket of the table, use the percentage method of withholding.

One withhold allowance for single weekly payroll is $77.9

Therefore amount subject to withholding = $2400 - $77.9 = $2322.1

Tax to be withhild on $2322.1 is =

$360 + (2322.1- 1812)×28% = $360 + $142.83

= $502.83
