Suppose kids need to be age 6 by Sept 1 to start school in Sept of that year (after Labor day). This cutoff is strictly enforced. Also assume that kids can leave school at age 16. Use these conditions to formulate an example where two kids born at different time points can end up with different educational attainment.
Consider a situation, when two kids are born in the month of
September. The first kid is born at 11:30 pm on 1st September,2000.
On the other hand, after one hour another kid is born which means
the other kid is born at 12:30am but now the date of birth of the
second kid changes to 2nd September, 2000.
After six years which means in 2006, the first kid was able to
secure admission in the school because he/she is six years old at
that point of time. However, the second kid is not able to secure
at admission in the school because the kid was not six years old as
on 1st September ,2006. The second kid has to wait for another year
and would get admission in 2007. The first kid would leave the
school at the age of 16 and could proceed for higher education in
college.
However, the second kid would complete the schooling by the age of
17 as on 2nd September 2017 . By this time, the first kid would
have completed the first year in the college. This example clearly
indicates that the kids born at different point of time ( In this
situation, the time lag is one hour) can end up with different
educational attainment.
