Mrs. Anderson is being seen in the office to evaluate her general state of health. She is found to be malnourished and is suffering from lethargy and malaise. The provider suggests she should incorporate more protein in her diet, including some red meat, which has valuable amino acids and iron. The provider asks the medical assistant to provide Mrs. Anderson with a diet sheet listing certain meats and other foods high in protein. Mrs. Anderson tells the medical assistant she is a Seventh-Day Adventist and does not eat meat.

Expert Solution

Medical assistant should explain Mrs Anderson's about her diet restrictions consequences and how she can improve it. As Mrs Anderson is Seventh day Adventist and her diet is plant based and didn't eat meat , fish or any non vegetarian diet , some adventist even avoid diary products and become vegan . But the cons of plant based diet is that they mostly provide food rich in carbohydrates and due to plant based diet it is seen that person who takes it , lacks protein vitamins and Minerals in their body as its demand is not completed with plant based diet.

Protein is critical for every cells in our body as it help in building bones , hair , muscles etc. If our body doesn't have enough protein in our diet it may cause muscle wasting , skin degeneration , bones fracture and stunted growth in infants if pregnant. Thus protein play major role in body building .Also vitmains and minerals need to be taken properly though in small amounts as they play major role in regulation of various body functions and their deficiency can cause several Vitamin deficient disorders such as night blindness , scurvy etc

But she can take food which are rich in protein diet to avoid such consequences as there are many plant based foods too that are highly rich in protein and to be comsumed on regular base to avoid muscle wasting , malnutrition . These risk can be eliminated by taking vegetarian diet rich in soy , quinoa , nuts , lentils , chickpea , hempseed and green peas etc as they are rich in protein also plant based diet thus not hindering her restrictions also providing diet rich in protein and vitamins to ensure proper growth and development.
