Do you believe a leader can vary their style (demonstrate directive, supportive, achievement, participative) with respect to different employees? Or does each leader tend to have a personal style that he or she regularly uses toward all employees?
Yes, I believe that leaders can vary their leadership style. Successful leaders never stick to only a single leadership style and format. He changes the leadership style according to the situation, employees, and transformational organizational type.
Rational approaches to leadership indicate that leaders need to change the way they lead their team. For example,- he can adopt a directive leadership style for some employees while he can change it to a supportive leadership style for some other employees. It depends on employees and their perspectives.
• Directive leadership style: Leaders should use the directive leadership style for highly ambitious employees. It can help them set clear objectives and rules for achieving both their individual and organizational goal.
• Supportive leadership style: Leaders should use the supportive leadership style for a group of employees who are not professionally skilled enough. Leaders personally assist employees in accomplishing the task they are given.
• Achievement leadership style: Achievement leadership style can be adopted for the employees to prefer to take the challenge to achieve their goals. The leadership style allows the employees to work in a challenging situation with acute zeal, and confidence to achieve the goal.
• Participative leadership style: It is for the employees having strong engagement with the organization. Moreover, they prefer to add their inputs in organizational decision-making. The participative leadership style makes the employee feel valued in the organization by allowing them to express their views in decision-making.
An organization consists of people from different mentalities. Thus, leadership style should change according to the type of employees or group of employees.
