Expert Solution

Scrubbing :

  • Withdraw all jewels (rings, watches, bracelets).
  • Using antimicrobial soap to wash your hands and arms. For the recommended period of time, overly hot water is tougher on the skin, dries the skin, and is too awkward to wash with. However, dirt and germs can not be washed away because cold water prevents soap from lathering properly.
  • Clean sub-ungual areas with a file of nails.
  • Timing to launch. Scrub for two minutes on either side of each finger, between the fingers and the back and front of the palm.
  • Proceed to clean the bodies, holding the hand at all times higher than the arm. This protects the hand from being infected by bacteria-laden soap and water.
For one minute, wash each side of the arm three inches above the elbow.
On the other side and arm, repeat the procedure, holding hands over elbows at all times. The scrub must be lengthened by one minute for the area that has been infected if the hand touches something but the brush at any time.

  • Go to the operating room suite with your hands above your elbows.
The scrub time should be lengthened if the hands and arms are grossly soiled. However it is important to prevent vigorous scrubbing that causes the skin to become abraded.
Care should be taken at all times during the scrub process to prevent splashing water on the surgical attire.

  • Using a sterile towel and aseptic procedure, hands and arms should be cleaned once in the operating room suite.
