e. Does John need to take the protein supplement recommended by his trainer, or did he meet his protein needs for the day? Explain your answer on line 6
Protein requirements of a person can be calculated by multiplying person's weight with 0.36
As weight of John is 200lb
His protein intake should be 200×0.36=72gms
According to this calculation Jhon should take 72gms of protein per one day.
For a particular person he/she should get 12 to 20 % of their daily calories requirements from protien in their diet.
Each gram of protein provides 4 calories of energy.
a) According to the above mentioned data as John is taking a diet of 2000cal per day, he should consume between 240 cal and 400 cal from protein food.
b) Egg has 6 gms of protein and 2 bacon slices has 16gms of protein.
Total protein intake =6+16=22gms
Total calories obtained from breakfast =22×4=88Cals
C) 9oz of steak has 74 gms of protein in it.
Calories obtained from 74gms of protein in steak are=74×4=296cal.
John gets 296 cals from the steak he had.
Corncob has 4.5gms of protein
Calories from 4.5 gms of protein in corn cob =4.5×4=18cal.
Parker House roll has 3 gms of protein
Calories obtained from 3 gms of protein in Parker House roll =3×4=12cal.
Totally he get 18+12=30 cal from these two foods.
d) Jhon got his protein form each of his meal as follows
In Breakfast he got 22 gms of protein, that in turn gives 88 cals.
From the steak he had got 74 gms of protein, that gives 296 cals.
From corn cob and Parker House roll he got 4.5 & 3 gms of protein respectively and gets 18 cal and 12 cal from each of the respectively.
Total calories he got from protein =88+296+18+12=414cals.
Therefore John has obtained a total energy of 414 cal from the protien he took.
e) As John as obtained 414 cal from the protien he took and this amount is even a bit more from the requirements he should met according to his diet. So he need not take any supplement for the day.
