Match the vocabulary for Evolution: Species, Populations, Heritable Variation, Adaptations
A) Genetic differences in individuals within a population that can be pass on
B) Groups of the same species in the same geographic area
C) Traits that increase the individuals chance to survive
D) Similar looking organisms that can mate and produce viable offspring
A) Genetic differences in individuals within a population that can be passed on - Heritable Variation
Heritable Variation- It is a genetic difference or difference in the DNA sequence of our genome which are heritable means that can be passed on to the next generation. This heritable variation makes us unique whether in terms of hair colour, eye colour, skin colour, etc.
B) Groups of the same species in the same geographic area - Population
Population defines as the group of organisms of same species inhabiting a particular geographical area at the same time with the capability of interbreeding.
C) Traits that increase individuals chance to survive- Adaptations
Adaptation is a process by which species become fitted to its environment by the result of natural selection which acts on the heritable variation or the traits that increase individuals chance to survive over several generations.
D) Similar looking organisms that can mate and produce viable offspring- Species
Species are a group of similar-looking individuals, share common characteristics and are capable of interbreeding or mating to produce offerings similar to themselves.
