anticipatory guidance at each well chid visit?
I know at around 3 months you should tell the parent the infant will start to roll over and to be mindful of that. Anything else? Please give as much guidance as possible please.
ANTICIPATORY GUIDANCE involves counseling parents about expected developmental changes in their child.
Well child visits are scheduled at regular intervals to provide guidance.
GUIDANCE AT PRENATAL STAGE
✓ educate parents about breastfeeding practices and their importance.
✓increased physiological needs in mother's body. Educate the mother about her nutritional needs.
GUIDANCE FOR 6 - 12 MONTHS AGE
✓primary teeth develop at this stage. Check for the pattern of dental eruption.
✓ explain oral hygiene measures to the parents.
✓ nutrition of child
•4-6 months - pureed food should be given to child.
•6 -9 months - child can eat food with small lumps.
•9-12 months - can eat foods like rest of us.
✓ dental caries would be a risk factor.
✓ risks of injury are also high.
GUIDANCE FOR 12-24 months AGE
✓ Oral hygiene - assess home oral care practices and guide them .
✓nutrition -
• review child's diet and assess if his nutritional requirements are met.
✓ explain the role of sugars in causing dental issues.
✓ injury prevention is important - use car seats , avoid sharp objects at home,etc.
GUIDANCE FOR 2-6 years of age
✓ check pattern of eruption and periodontal tissue status.
✓ assess oral care practices.
✓review intake of food outside home.
✓injury prevention - oral trauma management , use of helmets,etc.
GUIDANCE FOR 6 TO 12 YEARS
✓ first permanent molars develop.
✓check for dental caries.
✓ educate about permanent teeth.
GUIDANCE FOR ADOLESCENT -
✓ At this stage , children deny listening to their parents .
✓ suggest measures to handle adolescents.
✓ review their habits inside and outside the home.
