deficiency leads to night blindness,Xerophthalmia, decrease skin integriy, dryskin, hair and nails. Excess causes hypervitaminosis. dry and itchy skin, hair loss, loss of appetite, skin discoloration ( yellow/ orange), liver damage. |
Vitamin C 60mg/day potent antioxident, protect from infection, metabolic free radicals. |
Deficiency- scurvy( bleeding gum, easy bruising, bone fragility) weight loss, delayed wound healing, decresed skin integrity. |
Vitamin D 5-10mg/day promote calcium absorption and bone formation |
deficiency- rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults |
Vitamin K 9-120microgram/day. promotes synthesis of blood clotting |
excess amount causes RBC breakdown , jaundice and hypercoagulation. Deficieny is less common. |
