What does the term body burden mean? Why is this important to know when you are discussing toxic exposure?
Body burden is the accumulated toxins present in a human body that can include from metals to pesticides to food additives and many more. A dose of a compund can be attributed to several factors such as, dose size, exposure length, rate of absorption, drug metabolism. Any alteration in these, can lead to accumulation of these drugs that affects the human body.
The various commissions are working on such issues to reduce the existing burden. Chemical found high in biological fluids are aimed to be elimiated for its use. It is believed that determining the toxins level is an measure in regulating the use of pesticides and their concentration. Also continuous monitoring of human body for these chemical should be performed for reducing their use.
