Please describe two health disparities which are specific to the Hispanic/Latinx communities. How might cultural factors play a role in these disparities?
Hispanics make up the largest and fastest growing minority groupin the united states for decades.Hispanics live linger and have liower death rates from heart disease, cancer and many of the other leading causes of death than the nonHispanic white residents despite having social disadvantage, including lower incomes and worse access to health coveage. The health conditions and risk factors that significantly affect Hispanics are asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,HIV/AIDS,obesity,suicide,liver disease.Hispanics have higher rates of obesity than non Hispanics
Human papilloma virus and cervical cancer are the two major health problems affecting Hispanics population.Studies of school age children have found that Hispanic children exercise less than white children, suggesting that there may be cultural factors accounting for the low physical activity levels observed among Hispanic adults.Medicalproviders unfamiliar with the Hispanic culture may not recognize the importance of family in making treatment decisions or n discharge planning.Cros cultural miscommunication may ocur when a Hispanic patient mistahkenly perceives impersonal proffesional behaviour for lack o interest or when a Hispanic patient perceives Hispanics to be superstitious, present, oriented, cnon complian or un interested in preventive exams.
